POLITICAL PRESSURE MOUNTS AS NETANYAHU LANDS IN WASHINGTON

Analysts weigh in on risks and highlights

As Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu began his first full day of meetings with officials in the US after landing in Washington Tuesday morning, voices back in Jerusalem were demanding that he raise various issues during those meetings. Allies of his within the government, including a groups of MKs and activists, issued a statement calling on him to secure US President Donald Trump’s support for the idea of expanding construction in West Bank settlements, and even for outright annexation.

“This is a historic time, and if our Likud government does not handle it correctly, we will be crying for generations,” Shomron Regional Council head Yossi Dagan said. “We expect new settlements to be built for the first time in 26 years. We proved we are loyal to the prime minister but we demand that he be loyal to what he has been saying for years. We don’t need American permission to build anywhere, especially in Jerusalem. We expect you to return with good results for Israel and all the settlements.” Read more here.

U.S. Director
International Christian Embassy Jerusalem (ICEJ

Susan Michael, Director of ICEJFor more than thirty years, Susan Michael has pioneered the development of the International Christian Embassy Jerusalem in the United States and around the world. She currently serves as the ministry’s USA Director and is a member of the ICEJ’s international Board of Directors.

"Christians already understand that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel and would like to see the American government follow suit."

In fact, ICEJ has had its own "unofficial" embassy in Jerusalem since 1980, a point that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu noted in his 2016 Christmas address.

"Hundreds of millions of Christians around the world understand from their Bible the spiritual significance of Jerusalem to the Jewish people, and that it was established as the capital of Israel some 3,000 years ago by King David," Michael told JNS.org, adding that Christians "believe the spiritual law of blessing established in Genesis 12 that God will bless those who bless the Jewish people....They want to see the U.S. standing in support of Israel and enjoying the blessings of doing so."
