“Jesus Freaks” is a dramatic, faith-based feature film from writer-director Nina May that tells a true-story-inspired tale of love, revival, and the power of the Holy Spirit during the 1970s Jesus Movement. Set in 1972 on a college campus during the height of the Jesus Revolution, the film follows a hippy and a cheerleader who fall in love and are swept into a world of spiritual awakening, supernatural encounters, and intense theological conflict. When the young woman receives the baptism of the Holy Spirit, she faces rejection from both her boyfriend and her pastor, exposing the clash between hungry, Spirit-led believers and the skepticism of establishment churches.
The story is based on Nina May’s own journey of meeting her husband and encountering the Holy Spirit, and it aims to rekindle viewers’ desire for a deeper intimacy with Jesus and a bold, public faith. Starring Braeden Sorbo and Ashley Hibbs, with Kevin and Sam Sorbo in key roles, the film portrays the Christian youth revolution that swept across America and hints at future persecution and tribulation in a powerful closing sequence. “Jesus Freaks” was produced by Renaissance Women Productions and Giannetti Films, shot partly in Florida and in Virginia’s Culpeper and Rappahannock counties with the help of local churches, and is now available to rent or buy on platforms including Amazon and faith-based streaming outlets.
