Bio

Mehrdad “Marty” Youssefiani is the Director of the Iran Freedom Project at the Middle East Forum, where he writes and speaks on Iran policy, the Iranian democratic opposition, and U.S.-Iran relations. For fifteen years (2000–2015), he served as senior strategic counselor to Iran’s former Crown Prince, giving him a rare insider’s perspective on the Iranian opposition movement.

A veteran political consultant, Youssefiani has been a Partner at Marsh Copsey International — advising sovereign clients and multinationals, including the Kurdish Regional Government in Erbil — as well as a Partner and board member of Edward J. Rollins International, and previously worked with Hill & Knowlton Public Affairs Worldwide.

Born in Tehran and raised in Japan, Youssefiani is an American of Kurdish-Iranian heritage. He is a native speaker of Persian and English and proficient in Arabic. His recent writing includes analyses of the U.S.-Iran Memorandum of Understanding and Iran’s post-war ceasefire.
