Bio

Steve and Dr. Kathy Boyls are the co-authors of I’ve Been to Heaven, the astonishing true story of Steve’s near-death encounter with Heaven and Kathy’s fight of faith on Earth as his life hung in the balance. In December 2021, Steve contracted COVID-19 and was admitted to the ICU, where he spent 45 days on a ventilator and a total of three and a half months in the hospital while doctors gave him little chance of survival. During this critical time, Steve says his spirit left his body and was taken through the heavens into the very presence of Jesus, where he witnessed breathtaking scenes of Heaven, reunited with loved ones—including the couple’s miscarried son, Daniel—and saw war horses being prepared for the end times.

While Steve was experiencing the reality of Heaven, Kathy—a board-certified pediatrician with more than 30 years of experience—waged an intense battle in prayer and medical advocacy, standing on Scripture and refusing to accept the grim prognoses spoken over her husband. Drawing on her background in pediatrics, functional medicine, and lactation consulting, as well as her work in both inpatient, outpatient, and urgent care settings, she balanced medical expertise with unwavering faith in God’s healing power. Their intertwined journeys form the heart of I’ve Been to Heaven, a book and developing feature film project that testify that miracles still happen, God still answers the prayer of faith, and that Jesus is returning very soon.

Professionally, Steve Boyls is an experienced senior software engineer and business owner with over three decades in oil and gas, telecommunications, satellite command and control, financial analysis, web development, and Department of Defense-related work. He has served as a team lead, software architect, consultant, and liaison between developers and customers, working with civil and government organizations at various security clearance levels, and holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of Tulsa. Since his recovery, Steve has dedicated himself to sharing his testimony worldwide and has also developed an interest in stem cell activation and photobiomodulation technologies to support healing and wellness.

Dr. Kathy Boyls, M.D. is a Board-Certified Pediatrician and Internationally Certified Lactation Consultant with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Chemistry and a Doctor of Medicine degree from Oral Roberts University and its medical school. With more than 30 years of experience, she has practiced pediatrics in inpatient, outpatient, urgent care, and primary care settings and now leads Freedom Pediatrics, a functional medicine practice in Tulsa specializing in chronic disease and neurobehavioral disorders in children, while also serving families at Broken Arrow Pediatrics. Known for her passion to “fight for her patients,” Kathy brings both medical credibility and a deep conviction about the power of prayer, making her a compelling voice on faith, healing, and the intersection of science and the supernatural.

Together, Steve and Kathy now travel, write, and appear on television, radio, podcasts, and live events to share their story—a message of hope for those facing medical crises, grief, or doubt about whether Heaven is real and whether God still intervenes in the lives of ordinary people.

After COVID-19 sent Steve into the ICU for forty-five days on a ventilator and three and a half months in the hospital, his spirit was ushered into Heaven, where he encountered breathtaking beauty, reunited with loved ones—including the couple’s miscarried son Daniel—and stood in the presence of Jesus, who gave him an urgent message of hope for the world. While Steve was in a coma, Kathy—an experienced, board-certified pediatrician—battled grim prognoses, medical protocols, and intense spiritual warfare through relentless prayer.

Co-authored with Pulitzer Prize–nominated journalist Troy Anderson and published by Chosen Books/Baker Publishing Group, this powerful testimony offers one of the most vivid, faith-building portraits of Heaven and the power of prayer available today.
