Juneteenth Celebration

(WASHINGTON) June 10, 2026 — Alveda King will lead a Celebration of Freedom, Unity and Gratitude on June 20, 2026, at 6 p.m. at the Kennedy Center in Washington.

The event will feature music, spoken word and historical reflection in observance of Juneteenth, a federal holiday recognizing the end of slavery in the United States.

“Juneteenth is an opportunity for all Americans to celebrate freedom, remember our shared history, and embrace our common future,” said King. “As my uncle, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., taught, we are stronger when we recognize our common humanity and move forward together.” The evening will include tributes to military veterans and community leaders, along with recognition of contributions from Americans across education, entrepreneurship, science, agriculture, the arts, and public service.

Musical selections will showcase traditional and patriotic works such as “Lift Every Voice and Sing” and “America the Beautiful,” concluding with a finale of unity and hope.

Organizers say the non partisan observance will be welcoming and uplifting for all Americans, emphasizing shared values rather than political differences.

In addition, Dr. King will debut a new song to unify America, Happy Birthday USA.
